Third baseman Royce Lewis suffered an apparent injury in his left knee during the Minnesota Twins ’ 3-1 win over the Detroit Tigers on Thursday. After monitoring the situation, the organization made an IL decision for Lewis.
The Twins announced on Saturday that Lewis, who is 26 years old, is being placed on the 10-day IL with a left knee sprain. Minnesota also announced right-handed pitcher Cody Laweryson is going to the 15-day IL, while utility man Ryan Kreidler and right-handed pitcher Andrew Morris were recalled from Triple-A St. Paul.

Injuries have been persistent throughout Lewis’ five seasons in the majors. This isn’t the first time he has dealt with knee injuries, as Royce Lewis suffered an ACL tear in his right knee in 2021 and 2022. Throughout his career, the Twins’ third baseman has also dealt with strains in his oblique, hamstring, and quadriceps. Lewis has only played 100 or more games in a single season (2025) just once in his MLB career.
Lewis appeared in 12 games for the Twins this year before sustaining the injury. He owns a .222 batting average and .378 OBP while totaling eight hits, two home runs, and eight RBIs. He also managed to record two stolen bases and generate eight walks.
Royce Lewis’ return date is up in the air for now, as the Twins are conducting further testing on his left knee sprain. With Lewis out of the lineup for now, the Twins are expected to play Kody Clemens at third base, while Tristan Gray will likely serve as the immediate backup.
