The Minnesota Twins are turning to another young arm as their pitching depth continues to be tested.
According to Dan Hayes of The Athletic , the Twins plan to call up right-hander Travis Adams ahead of Friday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays. The move comes as the Twins navigate the absence of Pablo Lopez, who's sidelined with a shoulder issue , and a rough outing Thursday by David Festa.
Adams, 24, has quietly put together a strong season in 2025. He's pitched in 13 games for Triple-A St. Paul, posting a 3-1 record with a 3.43 ERA over 42 innings. His 1.14 WHIP, 21.3% strikeout rate and 5.7% walk rate highlight his consistency.
He's made two abbreviated starts and 11 long-relief appearances, never exceeding 4 1/3 innings in any outing. However, he's been steadily ramping up, averaging 58 pitches across his last five appearances.
The Twins currently have four starters locked into the rotation. Joe Ryan (2.91 ERA), Bailey Ober (3.48 ERA) and Chris Paddack (3.58 ERA) are all pitching well, along with Simeon-Woods Richardson. That makes it likely Adams will begin his major league stint in a long-relief or swingman role.
To make room on the roster, the Twins optioned Kody Funderbunk to Triple-A. Funderbunk appeared in seven games for Minnesota this year, allowing eight runs on 15 hits.
