Team USA baseball knocked Canada out of the 2026 World Baseball Classic with a 5-3 win on Friday night. After sneaking into the quarterfinals following Italy’s win over Mexico, Team USA clashed with their neighbors, who put on a fight until the final out.
Before the game, they had Former Navy SEAL Robert J. O’Neill, who claims to have killed Osama Bin Laden in 2011, give them a pre-game pep talk. During his speech, he shared a story from that mission that made players and coaches laugh.
O’Neill recalled a moment when two stealth Black Hawk helicopters crashed-landed in the courtyard. One of the snipers on his squad didn’t see the crash. So, when he saw the chopper in the enemy’s courtyard, he figured it was a training mock-up they were using to prepare for the US military.
“He sees it, gets on the radio and says, ‘Guys inside, be on alert, okay? They’re definitely ready for us. They have a training mock-up of our super-secret helicopter in their front yard.’ So the boss came out and goes, ‘no jacka–, that’s ours because we crashed.’ The sniper goes, ‘yeah, that makes a lot more sense than the — I used to say.'”
The video has drawn over one million views on X.
A couple of weeks ago, Aaron Judge also made headlines thanks to his motivational speech ahead of the WBC. A clip shared by MLB on social media showed Judge speaking as if he would go to war. The speech drew a lot of criticism.
“Sacrifice for your family at home. You’re sacrificing for your country, and you’re sacrificing for the brothers in the trenches with you every single day,” Judge said. “And that’s what they all want us to do, fellas. You know, we’re down, we’re beat up a little bit, man. Lean into each other. We’re gonna lay it out on the line, and if we do that, we’re bringing the gold home. I’m telling you.”
Team USA advanced to the semifinals. They will take on Team Dominican Republic on Sunday.
