College Baseball in the Beehive State of Utah – Week 13

Utah is home to four Division I college baseball teams. Here’s how they’re doing in 2025.

Utah (17-25, 5-19 in the Big 12)

Utah is struggling and is currently in last place in the Big 12. This weekend, they went to Houston and were swept by the Cougars. They lost 5-4, 7-3, and 10-4. Next, they’ll host in-state rival UVU on Tuesday before hitting the road next weekend against the Arizona Wildcats. Zona is 32-13 overall and 14-8 in the Big 12. They are fourth in the Big 12 and will be a tough trip for the Utes.

UVU (27-21, 12-9 in the WAC)

UVU had a weekend series against UT-Arlington. Things didn’t go well as they were swept. They dropped game one on Friday, 16-6. Game two on Saturday wasn’t much better and was also a loss, 14-8. On Sunday, they the series with a 7-4 defeat. This week, UVU will travel north for a weeknight game against the Utes in Salt Lake City. They’ll then return to Orem for their last home series of the season, against Sacramento State, which is 28-19 and 12-5 in conference play. Sacramento is in first place in the WAC, and Utah Valley fell to fourth this past weekend.

BYU (22-23, 7-17 in the Big 12)

BYU beat GCU on Monday, 10-9 in Phoenix, Arizona. They then hosted a series against the Kansas Stat Wildcats. BYU beat K-State in game one on Thursday, 11-6 at home in Miller Park in Provo, Utah.

But then the Cougs were walloped by the Wildcats. On Friday, they lost 18-4 and on Saturday, 13-4 to finish their week at 2-2. Up next, they’ll travel to the Kansas to take on Wichita State on Tuesday and the Kansas Jayhawks on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Kansas is one of the top two teams in the Big 12 and will be a tough out for the Cougars, especially after losing their most recent series to Cincinnati. BYU is currently the last team in for the Big 12 tournament and will have to fight hard to keep ahead of UCF and Utah.

BYU Baseball had an alum make some baseball history this weekend for Cleveland Guardians.

Daniel Schneemann became only the second player in MLB history to have a multi-HR game on the road that included a game-winning grand slam with his team trailing and down to its final out. The other was Babe Ruth in 1919 when he was still playing for Boston.

Utah Tech (19-26, 5-13 in the WAC)

Utah Tech lost to UNLV on Tuesday, 17-3 at home. Friday night, they bounced back with a 10-9 win over Seattle. Saturday, they had a bad loss, 12-2, against the Redhawks. On Sunday, they bounced back to take the series with a 7-3 win. This week, the Trailblazers play UNLV again, this time on Monday, in Las Vegas. Tech will return for their final home series in Saint George aft that. They’ll take on UT-Arlington. The Mavericks are 17-27 overall and 9-9 in the WAC. The series win over Seattle is big for the Trailblazers as they look to be playing their best baseball as the WAC tournament approaches.
