Marking his 3rd NL West team since 2023, Nick Ahmed has joined the Los Angeles Dodgers on a one-year deal to help them out in the infield.
When asked what he brings to the table, Dave Roberts praised the veteran’s glove, acknowledging Ahmed as a “lockdown shortstop.” The Dodgers are currently dealing with Mookie Betts on the IL.

Ahmed played 11 seasons in Arizona from 2014 to September 2023, his best season came in 2019 when he picked up 141 hits, 19 home runs, and earned a Gold Glove award.
However, the postseason brought Ahmed little luck. In 2017, he suffered a wrist injury, sending him to the IL in August and causing him to miss out on the Diamondbacks’ first postseason trip since 2011. Then, in 2023, less than a month before the D-backs embarked on their memorable run to the World Series, Ahmed was let go by Arizona as they had Geraldo Perdomo take over at shortstop and prospect Jordan Lawlar on the way.
At the time of his release in early September, Ahmed’s season batting average sat at .212. He had more strikeouts than hits, and his home run total was just two. The release was warranted, but it still left an apparent sour taste in Ahmed’s mouth as he watched the team he had been a part of for 10 years go on a postseason Cinderella story without him. Last month, when the Giants were in town, whom he signed for at the beginning of the 2024 season, Ahmed refused to accept his National League Championship ring.
Ahmed was released by San Francisco on July 9th. Across 52 games, he posted a .232 batting average, a .581 OPS, and just one home run across 155 at-bats. Ahmed’s recent 2-18 stretch at the plate was the final straw for the Giants.
Now, he will try his luck with another National League West rival, the Los Angeles Dodgers, as he seeks his first postseason run.
