Watch Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani reach 100 mph to strike out Mets’ Francisco Lindor

Shohei Ohtani is back on the mound again for the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Japanese two-way sensation made his third start of the season today, this time facing off against the New York Mets. It’s the first time that Ohtani is a full-time two-way player again after suffering an elbow injury two years ago.

Facing off against a formidable Mets team, Ohtani broke out his best stuff once again. Ohtani pitched six innings for the Dodgers, striking out ten batters and allowing just one run and two hits. The Japanese superstar looked dominant on the mound, leaving his opponents in awe as well. After Ohtani struck out Mets star Francisco Lindor with a 100 mph fastball, the shortstop couldn’t help but just smile.

For the entirety of the 2024 season and a good portion of the 2025 campaign, Ohtani was listed primarily as a designated hitter. The Los Angeles Dodgers star suffered an elbow injury towards the end of his stint with the Angels, leading to him being a full-time hitter for a while. Once he was cleared to return to the pitch, though, Ohtani once again became the two-way demon that he’s been for the last few years.

Interestingly, though, this game against the Mets was the first time since May of 2021 that Ohtani played solely as a pitcher. After getting hit by a pitch in their previous game, the Dodgers elected not to have Ohtani play both ways today. The Dodgers star is 0-7 with just a walk after that HBP, which makes resting him make a lot of sense.

“If he wouldn’t have gotten hit, he would’ve DH’d today,” Dodgers manager Roberts said. “So I just think in this one game, it just makes more sense to give him the best chance to kind of manage the shoulder and the back.”

Ohtani’s no-earned-run allowed streak ended today, unfortunately, after the Mets scored a run off him. However, that run was just one of the two scores the Mets had today. In contrast, the Dodgers scored eight runs today, with four batters scoring a home run today.
