Cruz is one of the most highly-touted rookies in the game and made his major league debut in 2021 by going 3-for-9 with one home run and three RBI over two games. The 23-year-old began the 2022 campaign in the minors, but after slashing .233/.337/.424 with nine home runs, 35 RBI and 30 stolen bases in 54 games at Triple-A, he was promoted in mid-June.
In addition to his talent at the dish, Cruz has flashed the leather and showcased a strong arm in the infield, as he fired a 96.7 mph throw across the diamond to throw out the Cubs' Willson Contreras at first base in his first big league game of 2022. The heater was the fastest infield throw of the MLB season at the time, and it was 0.6 mph behind the fastest since the stat started being recorded.
Through 51 games this season covering 187 at-bats with Pittsburgh Cruz has posted a slash line of just .198/.249/.401, but has recorded 10 home runs, 30 RBI and six stolen bases.
