The Chicago Cubs have found a way to force Game 5 in their 2025 National League Division Series against the Milwaukee Brewers. Chicago looked as though it was done after losing the first two games of the series in Milwaukee, but the Cubs responded with back-to-back wins in Game 3 and Game 4 at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
Momentum is on the side of the North Siders, especially after their 6-0 win at home in Game 4 on Thursday, but they will be the visiting team this Saturday in Game 5 at American Family Field.
Cubs manager Craig Counsell is doing his best to instill confidence in his team, as Chicago plays in enemy territory for a winner-take-all Game 5 versus the Brewers. Counsell even said ahead of the contest that the Cubs are headed to the West Coast once the NLDS is over, implying that he sees Chicago completing the come-from-behind series against Milwaukee.
“We’re going to LA after Milwaukee. You have to be prepared to do it. That’s the plan,” Counsell said, via Marquee Sports Network.
Meanwhile, fans had a lot to say about Counsell’s take.
“Cubs and Dodgers opened the season in Tokyo and now they could very well be the last 2 standing teams in the NL.”
“Already booked their tickets to Disneyland so they can hate watch the Brewers that’s crazy”
“I think he means Cancun.”
“Hopefully the team is flying to LA and not Cancun tomorrow night
”
“Or just home to Whitefish Bay.”
The Cubs and the Brewers have yet to name their starting pitchers for Game 5 at the moment, but in any case, it will be a game that will attract a ton of attention. The bullpen for both teams can be expected to have huge roles in this upcoming win-or-go-home contest.
“We’re certainly going to need the bullpen formula that we’ve used,” Counsell said, per MLB.com. “We’re going to have to get half the outs from not those five guys, right? And that’s how we’re looking at it, and that’s what we’re going to have to get.”
The winner will face Shohei Ohtani and the reigning World Series champions Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series.
