White Sox Finalize Post-Deadline Roster Moves

The Chicago White Sox announced several roster moves Tuesday ahead of their series opener against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park, officially adding their recent trade acquisitions to the active roster.

Catcher Joey Bart, right-hander Huascar Brazobán, right-hander Luis Castillo, and outfielder Brenton Doyle have all been added to the 26-man roster.

In corresponding moves, the White Sox optioned catcher Edgar Quero and left-hander Tyler Schweitzer to Triple-A Charlotte. The club also activated left-hander Tyler Gilbert from the 15-day injured list and optioned him to Charlotte.

Bart joins the club after being acquired from the Atlanta Braves on Monday in exchange for right-hander Duncan Davitt. He will share catching duties with Drew Romo while Kyle Teel remains on the injured list with a left ankle sprain.

Castillo, acquired from the Seattle Mariners on Saturday, is expected to make his White Sox debut later this week. Brazobán and Doyle, both acquired Monday, provide immediate bullpen and outfield depth, respectively.

Quero had been up with the big-league club since late July, filling in behind the plate for an injured Kyle Teel. Schweitzer had been used in a multi-inning relief role.

The moves come one day after the trade deadline as the White Sox, currently first in the AL Central, look to integrate their new pieces into the lineup and pitching staff.
