As the 2024 MLB season approaches, the Chicago White Sox have their new TV play-by-play announcer. The club announced Thursday that John Schriffen will take over the role that Jason Benetti vacated earlier this offseason.
The White Sox selected Schriffen over two other reported finalists for the job: Boston Red Sox radio announcer Will Flemming and ESPN 1000’s Connor McKnight. Schriffen agreed to a "multiyear deal" to become the White Sox' new TV play-by-play announcer.

“I grew up playing and loving the game of baseball, so it is an ultimate dream to have accepted the role as play-by-play voice of the Chicago White Sox,” Schriffen said upon assuming the role. “When you consider all the great and talented broadcasters who have worked White Sox games over the decades, being handed this responsibility truly is humbling.
"My new partner, Steve Stone, ranks among those greats, and I am looking forward to our calling Sox games together this season as I get to know White Sox fans and they get to know me. I can’t wait to get started."
Schriffen touts a resume filled with news and sports experience. A former pitcher at Dartmouth, Schriffen began his broadcasting career with News 12 The Bronx in New York City. After a stint at NBC4 in Washington, D.C. he assumed a New York-based correspondent role for ABC News.
Schriffen then covered football as a studio host and anchor for NFL Network and a play-by-play broadcaster and sideline reporter for CBS Sports. His time at CBS also saw him cover college basketball and football.
In 2020, Schriffen joined ESPN to call Korean Baseball Organization games. A versatile presence at ESPN, Schriffen currently calls MLB games, college basketball, football, softball, and baseball, and NBA G-League and Summer League action. He also appears on select national MLB broadcasts for ESPN Radio.
