White Sox Reunite with Brandon Drury

Since a nine-run explosion in a blowout win over the Minnesota Twins, the Chicago White Sox offense has gone missing. Their best hitter thus far, Andrew Benintendi, is now day-to-day with a leg injury. Things could get really ugly, really fast.

Before spring training, the White Sox signed infielder Brandon Drury to a minor league deal with a non-roster invite. Drury scorched the Cactus League, outperforming his teammates at the dish. The 32-year-old slashed .410/.439.821 over 41 plate appearances in 13 games and belted three homers.

But just as he looked like a lock to make the Opening Day roster, he fractured his thumb. The Sox released him shortly after, with a timetable that projected him to miss up to two months.

Well, guess who’s back?

Today, the club announced that it has agreed to a new minor league deal with Drury and assigned him to extended spring training.

Drury had an abysmal 2024 with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Still, before that, he performed well as an everyday regular with the New York Mets, Cincinnati Reds, and Angels—capable of handling second and third base.

What’s on tap next?

The White Sox desperately need offense. And while Drury likely needs a few weeks to get his footing, this lineup isn’t scaring anyone in the meantime. If his spring performance were even remotely real, getting anything close to that version of Drury would be a huge help.
