Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson needed the assistance of trainers to limp off the field Sunday after suffering an injury while fielding a ground ball against the Chicago Cubs. The White Sox later announced Anderson strained his groin on the play and will be further evaluated Monday.
The injury happened on what looked to be a routine play with Anderson throwing out Cubs catcher P.J. Higgins at first base.
Hate to see this for Tim Anderson, arguably the one player the White Sox can't afford to lose pic.twitter.com/WlbmnzxbAZ

Anderson, 28, has been one of the best players in baseball this season with a .356 batting average and .896 OPS. He also leads the White Sox with eight steals. In 2020, he finished seventh in AL MVP voting and, in 2021, he earned his first trip to the MLB All-Star Game.
The White Sox entered Sunday with a 22-23 record and are third to last in runs scored this season ahead of only the Pittsburgh Pirates and Detroit Tigers. Losing Anderson, who is the only starter on the team batting better than .300, would be a devastating loss for the Chicago offense.
Anderson was replaced in the lineup Sunday by Danny Mendick, who is batting .240 this season.
