White Sox Swing Deadline Deal for Veteran Reliever

Brazobán, 36, had drawn strong interest from a number of teams over the past week including the Pittsburgh Pirates. The hard-throwing righty comes with three more years of team control which will keep him arbitration eligible through his age-39 season.

Drafted in 2011, Brazobán spent a decade with various minor league and International League clubs before landing with the Miami Marlins where he made his MLB debut in 2022. There he posted back-to-back solid seasons and was traded to the Mets at the 2024 deadline, where he struggled to finish the year.

But over the last two seasons, Brazobán has become one of New York's best and most reliable late-inning options. He finished his 2025 campaign 5-2 with a 3.57 ERA in 52 appearances (63.0 IP). This year he has been even better, posting a 2.56 ERA and 1.01 WHIP across 46 appearances (52.2 IP).

Brazobán features a lively fastball that sits around 96-97 mph. Leaning primarily on a sinker, he induces a high 52.6% ground ball percentage. He plays a low-90 mph changeup off of this which also helps to generate weak contact but also can get some swing and miss, of which Brazobán ranks right around league average with a 23.7% strikeout percentage and 25.2% whiff percentage.

The concern for Brazobán will be control, as his high walk percentage (11.1%) can get him in some trouble in high leverage spots. But with his ability to miss barrels when attacking the zone, Brazobán will be a steady option for a White Sox team in desperate need of bullpen help, especially after the departure of Seranthony Domínguez in the Castillo trade.

Despite his years of control, the Mets netted just two players, one of which is an intriguing prospect and the other a career minor league reliever. Davis, 22, was drafted in the fifth-round last year out of Oklahoma State where he played alongside Mets rookies Carson Benge and Nolan McLean. With a big 6'9" frame and a fastball that can flirt with triple digits, New York will likely try to keep him as a starter for the time being where he has a 5.81 ERA across 62 innings this year in High-A and Double-A.

Franklin, 27, has yet to crack the major leagues after he was drafted in the 10th round of the 2023 draft. The right-hander is likely to figure into the Mets bullpen this season post-sell, but he will have to be selected to the 40-man roster in the offseason to avoid the Rule 5 draft.
