The Chicago White Sox' manager search is reportedly over. According to MLB.com's Scott Merkin , the White Sox will hire Will Venable as their next manager. He'll take over for Grady Sizemore, who led the South Siders to a 13-32 record as interim manager to close the 2024 campaign after Pedro Grifol was fired midseason.
Will Venable, 42, most recently served as the Texas Rangers' associate manager under Bruce Bochy. The Rangers won the 2023 World Series under the duo's leadership but failed to make the playoffs this season.
Venable previously served as a special assistant to then-Chicago Cubs president Theo Epstein and coached third base for the Cubs in 2018 and 2019 before moving to first base in 2020. He spent the next two seasons with the Boston Red Sox serving as Alex Cora's bench coach before taking the associate manager gig under Bochy in Texas.
If Merkin's report is accurate, expect the White Sox to officially introduce Will Venable as their next manager in the coming days. Chicago has a long road back to respectable baseball after finishing the 2024 season with the most losses (121) in modern MLB history. Venable has his work cut out for him.
