The New York Yankees are watching a brutal slump involving Ryan McMahon. One that gets fans believing if Aaron Boone will demote him down the lineup. McMahon already didn’t record any hits or at-bat attempts in the 11-4 Thursday loss to the Anaheim Angels.
Except Boone hasn’t shown any desire to give up on his third baseman just yet.
Boone addressed McMahon’s struggles with reporters after the seven-run loss. He feels McMahon is trying despite what the stats reveal.
“I still stand by him. He’s got a lot of talent and a lot of ability. He’s working on some things right now that are taking hold,” Boone explained. “Obviously, he’s a work in progress.”

Boone even felt McMahon showed strong at-bats during the Wednesday contest. He still went 0-for-3 in the 5-4 Yankees victory.
“It’s in there,” Boone said about McMahon’s hitting potential. “He’s going through it right now. But he’s trying to make settle adjustments that hopefully pay off.”
McMahon joined the Yanks last season following a lengthy nine-season stint with the Colorado Rockies. Though he joined the Yankees during a July 2025 trade via the Rockies.
McMahon blasted four home runs total in his NYY arrival after hitting 16 with Colorado. He also drove 18 runners home. McMahon settled for 109 hits with 33 coming in the pinstripes.
But he’s smacked only five hits through 17 games played this season. The left-handed batter also has scored only two runs and is yet to blast a single home run for 2026.
New York is currently 10-9 overall after splitting the four-game series with Anaheim.
