With the New York Yankees starting a new series against the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night, the status of Jasson Dominguez had been up in the air after the events of Wednesday’s 3-0 loss to the Texas Rangers. As the Yankees’ left fielder in Dominguez was hit by a pitch and left the game, manager Aaron Boone would provide a big update that fans want to hear.
Speaking ahead of the series opener on Friday against the Orioles, Boone would speak to the media about Dominguez, who got hit in the left elbow in the top of the fourth inning and immediately felt pain. While X-Rays that day were “inconclusive,” via MLB.com, a CT scan later conducted “came back clean,” as Boone said, with Domingues doing some baseball work and could come off the bench.
“Aaron Boone said Jasson Dominguez’s CT scan came back clean. He was already doing some baseball activities before Boone spoke, the manager hopes to have him available off the bench,” Gary Phillips wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Speaking about the incident, Dominguez gave insight into how it felt as the ball sneaked to hit his elbow, with the 23-year-old saying his arm “went numb a little bit.”
“It got me right in the elbow,” Domínguez said, via MLB.com. “As of right now, I don’t feel any concern. … Right when it hit me, my arm went numb a little bit, but [since] it’s just been swelling.”
“This is baseball,” Domínguez continued. “It is what it is.”
So far this season, Dominguez has recorded a .111 batting average as he has been trying to find some more consistency in playing time and when he’s at the plate. Having played three games and recorded nine at-bats this season thus far, the injury news is a good sign in not setting him back.
It remains to be seen what Dominguez’s role looks like for Friday’s series opener against the Orioles and throughout the season, as the Yankees are currently 20-11, which puts them first in the AL East.
