Yankees Announce Discouraging Jazz Chisholm Jr. News

Boone didn’t find out about the results of Chisholm’s imaging until late this afternoon. As a result, the skipper was unsure of who will take Chisholm’s spot on the roster, but it sounds like Anthony Volpe is a possibility.

The Yankees have the option of playing Volpe, Jose Caballero or Amed Rosario at second base in Chisholm’s absence. Caballero is in the lineup tonight playing second. Volpe got sent down to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Aug. 4 to learn how to play second base. He has since been on a heater at the plate, so it will be intriguing to see him get another shot in the big leagues at a new position.

Chisholm jammed his thumb and left the game early in Tuesday night’s 5-3 win over the Colorado Rockies. After going 30/30 last year, Chisholm has had a poor season in 2026. In 134 games, Chisholm is batting .232/.312/.403 with a .715 OPS, 19 home runs, 55 RBI and 40 stolen bases.

However, Chisholm has played much better over the past month. In his last 30 games before getting injured, he was hitting .283/.374/.424 with three homers and 10 RBI. This is more like the true version of Chisholm that we’re accustomed to seeing.

With just 18 games left to play in the regular season, the best-case scenario is for Chisholm to make it back in time for the postseason.

Chisholm will be a free agent after the 2026 season.
