Yankees are somewhere they haven't been in 33 years

New York Yankees fans woke up on Tuesday morning seeing their team in unfamiliar territory.

For the first time in 33 years, the Bronx Bombers are alone in last place in the AL East through 95 games played.

While the Aaron Judge-less offense has been the primary culprit of the Yankees woes this season, the bullpen has been the issue the last couple of games.

On Sunday, New York fell to the host Colorado Rockies via an 11th inning walk-off home run, and a broadcaster jinx from John Flaherty of the YES Network. This came after Yankees ace Gerrit Cole was dominant in his six innings of work, striking out 11.

New York's bullpen has been the biggest strength of the club for most of the campaign — and arguably one of the best in baseball — but it surrendered three home runs on Sunday against Colorado (the worst team in the National League).

During Monday's game against the below-.500 Los Angeles Angels (sans Mike Trout), the Yankees relievers spoiled a solid, six-inning quality start from Luis Severino. After the righty allowed just one run on six hits, three bullpen arms combined to allow three runs (two earned) on three hits and five walks over 3 2/3 frames in the 4-3 loss.

Fortunately for the Yankees (50-45), there's still plenty of time left in the season and they're very much in the wild-card race. The Yankees enter Tuesday just 2.5 games behind the rival Houston Astros for the third and final wild card in the American League.
