New York Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole missed the first 75 games of the 2024 season because of a right elbow injury.
That same elbow is now threatening to cut into his 2025 season.
On Friday, it was reported that the 2023 Cy Young Award winner was having to undergo diagnostic tests on the elbow, which is his throwing elbow.
The imaging is now being circulated amongst trusted experts, and he is hoping for the best outcome.
“I’ve still got some hope. I’m just waiting for the experts to weigh in," Cole said on Saturday, according to MLB.com Yankees reporter Bryan Hoch.
Gerrit Cole said the imaging of his elbow has already been distributed and he is seeking second opinions. No travel booked at this time. “I’ve still got some hope. I’m just waiting for the experts to weigh in.”

Cole, 34, pitched 2 2/3 innings this past Thursday against the Minnesota Twins. He relayed that he felt good during the game, but afterward, he started dealing with a progressing soreness.
"Something wasn't right," Cole explained, per ESPN.
Last season, it was nerve irritation and edema in his right elbow that took him out. We'll have to wait and see alongside Cole what the prognosis could be this spring.
The fact that he's dealing with this for the second straight season at his age isn't great news, though.
After Cole came back for the Yankees in 2024, he posted an 8-5 record with a 3.41 ERA in 17 starts and then boasted a 2.71 ERA in five postseason starts.
