The Savannah Bananas brought their unique brand of baseball to New York last weekend, but the highlight of the trip wasn’t just the on-field entertainment.
For team owner Jesse Cole, it was getting the chance to spend time with one of the game’s greats: Yankees legend and Hall of Famer Joe Torre.
“Spending time with Yankees legend and Hall of Famer Joe Torre was certainly one of the highlights of the tour,” Cole shared.
“His passion for the game of baseball is unmatched. But to see his appreciation for our game of Banana Ball truly meant a lot. At 85, he’s seen almost everything you can see on a baseball field… so to show him something new and see his genuine reaction was a moment I’ll never forget.”
In a short clip posted by the Bananas, Cole can be seen talking with Torre about the rules of Banana Ball, the fast-paced version of the sport that has captivated fans around the country.
The video captures Torre’s curiosity and excitement as he listens intently, smiling as Cole breaks down how the alternative game works. https://x.com/YellowTuxJesse/status/1969068038629576861
For the Bananas, who have made a name by blending baseball with showmanship, the endorsement—if even in spirit—of a Hall of Fame manager and former Yankees skipper adds another layer of credibility.
For Torre, it was a chance to see a fresh spin on the game he dedicated his life to.
The Bananas have become a sensation on their national tour, and moments like this showcase how their reach continues to extend beyond their own fan base—bridging generations and even catching the attention of legends who helped shape the game.
