Yankees Make Spencer Jones Decision After Cody Bellinger News

The New York Yankees continue battling for position in a tight American League East race as they face a flurry of injuries during the second half of the 2026 MLB season. Entering Sunday’s series finale against the Philadelphia Phillies, eyeing a sweep, the Yankees are 59-45 and only two games behind the division-leading Tampa Bay Rays.

Although New York remains firmly in contention and is widely regarded as one of the top contenders in the league, the club has been forced to manage a flurry of injuries to key contributors. The Yankees have been without star outfielder Aaron Judge for nearly two months, and now await the medical testing results of Cody Bellinger after he tweaked his left hamstring on Saturday.

While the Yankees have yet to determine whether the former National League MVP will require a stint on the injured list, one of the organization's top prospects would likely be called up in his absence.

“Prior to tonight’s game, the Yankees made the following roster moves: • Placed INF/OF Cody Bellinger on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain. • Recalled OF Spencer Jones (#78) from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre,” the Yankees wrote on X.

As of Sunday morning, the Yankees are still awaiting results and have not made a decision on Bellinger yet.

Bellinger has been one of the Yankees' most productive players this season, earning his third career All-Star selection while slashing .259/.350/.420 with 11 home runs and 53 RBIs. If Bellinger is forced to miss time, Jones would likely receive the opportunity to get more major league at-bats under his belt. Jones possesses exceptional size and power, but his high strikeout rate in the majors (40.7%) remains a concern.

While the Yankees have not yet made a final decision on Bellinger's status, recalling Jones would give the club another talented outfielder capable of helping fill the void if the veteran is forced to miss time.
