The New York Yankees are on the road on Tuesday night as they begin a three-game series against the Houston Astros in a battle of two of the top teams in the American League.

New York enters the series having won seven of their last 10 games that included a sweep over the Washington Nationals and taking three of four games from the Chicago White Sox in their weekend series.

For the Yankees, they currently hold a 76-61 record which has them trailing the Toronto Blue Jays by two and a half games in the AL East and they are currently tied with the Boston Red Sox in the standings.

Before the Yankees begin their three-game series in Houston on Tuesday, the MLB made an announcement regarding one of their star players.

Cody Bellinger named AL Player of the Week

On Tuesday afternoon, the MLB announced that Cody Bellinger has been named the AL Player of the Week after his torrid stretch.

Last week, Bellinger had a .444 average as he went 12-for-27 at the plate that included five extra-base hits and eight RBI.

It was an impressive week for Bellinger and he has had a solid first season in New York after signing with there in the offseason.

This season, the 30-year-old outfielder has a .279 average to go along with 23 doubles, 26 home runs and 83 RBI.

Of course, Bellinger has played a key role in the Yankees’ success this season both at the plate and in the outfield as he has been arguably their most consistent batter outside of superstar outfielder Aaron Judge.

New York will need Bellinger to continue to produce at the plate as they try to track down the Blue Jays for the top spot in the AL East with less than a month to go before the playoffs begin.

Bellinger will now look to keep his torrid stretch at the plate going on Tuesday night as the Yankees start a series against the Astros that has massive playoff implications on both sides.
