Alexander Volkanovski found it difficult to separate the two men involved in Saturday’s main event.
Volkanovski has made it very clear that he wants to face Movsar Evloev next because he’s the most deserving featherweight contender.
Two of the division’s top ten will look to put their names in the mix when Aljamain Sterling returns to face Youssef Zalal on April 25.
‘The Great’ gave his full breakdown of the matchup and who he believes will come out on top ahead of UFC Vegas 116.
Both Youssef Zalal and Aljamain Sterling have made their cases for title shots ahead of their clash in the main event of UFC Vegas 116.
Alexander Volkanovski spoke about how the two have trained together in the past and possess similar skill sets, making it a tough fight to call. However, he did end up choosing the proven former bantamweight champion.
“I think I’m going to have to lean towards Aljamain just because he’s proven himself time and time again,” Volkanovski said on his YouTube channel. “He’s still got it.”
The champion thinks that their shared training history could play a role if one of them has a better understanding of how those sessions went than anyone else.
Volkanovski sees this as a tightly matched contest, saying that aside from Sterling’s experience, there isn’t much that separates them. He expects either a close battle or one where the winner just edges out across the board.
“Let’s see who really can use a bit of fight IQ and let’s see who has better skills because they’re going to need them,” Volkanovski continued. “It’s just going to come down to who is better and makes the most of when they’re on the feet, makes the most of when they’re wrestling and makes the most of when they’re grappling. Who is better in all these aspects.”
