UFC lightweight Arman Tsarukyan has quickly risen to prominence as one of the most dangerous contenders in the division. He earned recognition for his relentless pace and versatile skill set. ‘Ahalkalakets’ has long been viewed as a future title challenger with fans and analysts eagerly awaiting his next move. Tsarukyan revealed that his vacation has ended and he is returning to the Octagon.

The Armenian star defeated former champion Charles Oliveira on the UFC 300 card in April 2024. Tsarukyan grappled with Oliveira for the entirety of the three rounds. He bravely fended off submission threats and won the bout via split decision. However, since the fight at UFC 300, Tsarukyan has been inactive, but all that appears to change soon.

Vacation is over, tomorrow we lock in.

Tsarukyan’s journey in the UFC began in 2019 with a memorable debut against former lightweight champion Islam Makhachev. Despite losing a competitive decision, he impressed fans and MMA pundits with his composure and ability to push one of the division’s elite. Since then, Tsarukyan has compiled a string of impressive wins, including victories over Beneil Dariush and Damir Ismagulov.

Before joining the UFC, Tsarukyan had already built a strong resume on the regional circuit. Born in Georgia and raised between Armenia and Russia, he started his professional career in 2015 and quickly gained attention for his dynamic blend of wrestling and striking. His relentless style and ability to adapt in fights made him a standout prospect long before he entered the global spotlight.

However, Tsarukyan originates from a financially comfortable background, with his father, Nairi Tsarukyan, running a construction business. That provided him stability and upbringing not often found among UFC fighters. While the lightweight star leverages both inherited means and fight earnings, the defining aspect remains his dedication to proving himself as a fighter regardless of his privilege.

Mateusz Gamrot revealed details about failed grappling match against Arman Tsarukyan

Arman Tsarukyan is ranked at #2 in the 155-pound division and has made his intentions clear to challenge Ilia Topuria for the lightweight championship. He is currently on a four-fight win streak and could compete in a title eliminator bout. However, he would have been on a perfect 10-fight win streak if he had not lost against fellow lightweight Mateusz Gamrot in 2022.

Gamrot recently revealed on X that he was recently offered a grappling match against Tsarukyan scheduled for September 19 in Moscow. However, the Polish fighter declined the offer, stating that he believed their rematch should take place in the UFC Octagon, as fans desire to see them compete in an MMA bout.

I got offer for a grappling match with Arman again. People want to see us fight each other. I think we should do it in the UFC first.

The Arman Tsarukyan vs. Mateusz Gamrot rivalry remains one of the most compelling ones in the UFC lightweight division. While Gamrot has the only official victory from their 2022 clash, both fighters have expressed interest in a rematch. After all, some felt the split decision for win for Gamrot could have gone the other way as well.

The bout was extremely competitive as the Armenian fighter was extremely active in the first two rounds with his evolving kicking game. Meanwhile, Gamrot pushed the pace after Round 2, and got the better of Tsarukyan in the grappling exchanges. Ultimately, the Polish fighter’s output and control in the later rounds sealed the deal in the eyes of the judges.

With their skills, rankings, and competitive history, a second encounter in the Octagon would only settle unfinished business. Moreover, it could also have significant implications for the lightweight title picture, making it one of the most anticipated potential matchups in the division.
