Former UFC Lightweight Champion Charles Oliveira faces Mateusz Gamrot at a UFC Fight Night card in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on October 11, as we preview the fight.
Oliveira is looking to get back to winning ways after being knocked out by Ilia Topuria at UFC 317 in June, meaning he missed out on the vacant lightweight title. Charles had been on course to face Rafael Fiziev, but the latter pulled out due to a knee injury. There are concerns over the turnaround time for Charles after the Ilia fight just took place in June. Meanwhile, Gamrot beat Ludovit Klein in May which was the perfect response after the loss to Dan Hooker at UFC 305 in August 2024.
“Things that happened in the past have already passed. I’m not going to be bringing them up again. This is a new fight, a new place. I’m just really grateful to have this opportunity and keep doing what I’m supposed to do, regardless of those who want to speak bad about me. I honestly wanted to go back to fight as quickly as possible, but also I wanted to be in front of the public. I received a lot of love from the general public [after the Topuria loss], and I just wanted to carry that message, be face-to-face with my family, my fans, my flag, and so I think it’s a conjunction of many factors there [that led to the quick turnaround],” Oliveira said
“I can roll with him on the ground. I think this is going to be an epic fight on the ground, for sure, because I’m not afraid of his ground. I will go and take him down, and I’m going to try and roll with him on the ground. But this is going to be an all-rounder fight.
I’m going to exchange punches, exchange wrestling. I want to test myself against him on the ground. This is going to be nonstop action, for sure – five rounds nonstop action. But maybe we don’t need five rounds. Epic fight for sure – super excited.
“I go to his hometown to Brazil, all Brazil against me – give me this energy,” Gamrot said. “Give me this energy, because I grew up with this. Every boo will be power to me. And you know what? Wrestling is power – control, strength, conditioning, everything,” Gamrot said
