Dana White: Robertson Has a Title Shot Coming

In the WWE Universe, when a long-time performer wins a championship or gets a tribute, the crowd often chants, "you deserve it!" If Dana White makes good on what he hinted toward in a recent interview with SportsNet's Diane Belbita, that chant would be fitting for veteran strawweight contender, Gillian Robertson. According to White, the UFC is returning to Winnipeg and "there is a really good chance" Robertson gets a title shot soon.

What Did Dana White Say?

Rarely will White speak this specifically unless there's already a plan in place. During an interview with Belbita, White said he's excited to return to Canada for UFC Winnipeg and that "there is a really good chance" Robertson gets a title fight soon.

White didn't commit to a date or an opponent, but the pairing of the Winnipeg announcement with Robertson's name was deliberate.

Who Is Gillian Robertson?

Robertson is one of the most consistent and hard-working fighters in the sport. The 30-year-old has won five in a row and seven of her last eight fights. The soft-spoken submissions specialist is known for her bright red hair and extraordinary ground work.

She's one of the most active fighters on the UFC roster and has quietly built a resume that demands title contention. Robertson holds the record for the most submission wins in UFC women's history.

Why Is the Winnipeg Return Significant?

Robertson is from Niagara Falls, Canada which is about a two-hour flight from Winnipeg. The country has been underserved with UFC events, so the return should be well received. White mentioning Robertson's title shot in the same breath as the Winnipeg return feels like a deliberate setup.

A Canadian fighting for a title on Canadian soil would be a major draw for an event that hasn't happened in Winnipeg in years.

What Would a Title Fight Mean for Robertson?

Robertson has spent years grinding through the strawweight division without the fanfare that flashier fighters receive. Earning a title shot would validate a career built on consistency, submissions and showing up every time she's called.

Whether she wins or loses, the opportunity itself is the reward for one of the UFC's most quietly dominant fighters.
