Former UFC fighter Ben Askren continues to take giant steps on his recovery journey.
In June, ‘Funky’ was hospitalized with a severe case of pneumonia, which put him in a coma and became life-threatening.
Ben Askren later returned home to his family after getting a life-saving double lung transplant.
The 41-year-old was readmitted to the hospital when doctors spotted an infection on his first checkup.
Askren has been documenting the progress he’s made during his second stint in the hospital.
Most notably, he’s been learning how to walk again after being confined to a bed or wheelchair for several months.
Askren has been inspiring his social media followers with frequent updates about his recovery journey.
On Wednesday, he made a major announcement that had his supporters jumping for joy.
“Escaped again,” he wrote on Instagram after being discharged from the hospital for a second time.
“Hopefully this time it sticks!!”
The fight community rallied around Askren when he was at his lowest point.
Bitter UFC rival Jorge Masvidal sent a heartfelt message to the man he famously KO’d in five seconds.
Jake Paul consistently spoke out about wanting to help Askren after previously sharing the ring with him in April 2021.
After returning home for the first time, Askren reacted to the support from old rivals Masvidal and Paul.
“Man, I got only positive messages,” he told TMZ Sports.
“Like Jorge Masvidal and Jake Paul both messaged me. I was like, ‘Where the hell’s that come from?’
“The support was insanely broad across the board.”
