UFC Fight Night 276 offered fans one of the most unique fight endings in history. A week after the controversial Sean Strickland’s win over Khamzat Chimaev, more UFC talent took the octagon to climb positions in the rankings.
The women’s strawweight division saw Brazilian fighter Polyana Viana take on Alice Ardelean. Viana, on a three-fight losing streak, couldn’t defeat her opponent, who won her third consecutive bout.
Ardelean pulled off one of the most impressive moves to beat the Brazilian in the second round. She was in the guard of Viana while the Brazilian had her legs locked behind Ardelean’s back. Alice leaned into the foot to put pressure on Viana’s ankle. She couldn’t resist the pain and verbally quit.
After the fight, Daniel Cormier praised Ardelean for using that technique to win. She revealed that she saw it on Instagram. While watching tape, she realized Viana often locked her legs behind her opponent’s back.
a "Capsule Lock." Can definitely say I've never seen this in MMA. pic.twitter.com/NvZhJAapRM

The decision paid off. Ardelean continues to climb the rankings, while Viana might have fought her last fight in the UFC. The capsule lock is an extremely rare technique, but it wasn’t too hard for Ardelean.
