Mateusz Gamrot says having Dustin Poirier in the building at UFC Vegas 120 will give him superhuman powers.
Gamrot faces Quillan Salkilld in the main event Aug. 8 at Meta Apex in Las Vegas, per Sherdog. Poirier, his American Top Team stablemate, is working the desk as an analyst that night — his first broadcast role since getting arrested at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on a public drunkenness charge in June.
The Polish lightweight told Full Send MMA that Poirier brings "energy, crazy energy, every day attitude" to the gym. When Poirier texted to say he wanted to attend, Gamrot replied with a promise. "If you come, you give me 100% more power," he said. "If Dustin comes to this fight, I'll be immortal."
Gamrot is 2-2 in his last four and coming off a submission of Esteban Ribovics. Salkilld has finished four of his five UFC wins in the first round, including a May stoppage of Beneil Dariush.
The UFC and Paramount+ have stood by Poirier despite his June arrest. Bud Light cut ties with the former interim champion. First bell is scheduled for Saturday night.
