Garry Maintains Pride After UFC 330 Title Loss

Ian Garry says he has no regrets after losing a unanimous decision to Islam Makhachev at UFC 330 on Saturday night in Philadelphia.

The Irish welterweight posted a video message on Instagram hours after the loss, according to MMA Mania, telling supporters he felt good about his performance despite coming up short against the 170-pound champion. Garry said Makhachev was the better fighter on the night but stressed he pushed the pound-for-pound king to the limit over five rounds.

Garry On Makhachev Loss And Future Plans

The 28-year-old contender called Makhachev possibly the greatest fighter the sport has seen and said he was proud of how he competed. He told fans he remains bulletproof mentally and plans to return better than before.

The defeat drops Garry to 17-2 and ends a two-fight winning streak that included victories over former champion Belal Muhammad and Carlos Prates. He should remain ranked inside the welterweight top five and could face the winner of Sean Brady versus Gabriel Bonfim in November or a former titleholder like Jack Della Maddalena next.

Garry suffered the second loss of his professional career but proved he belongs among the elite at 170 pounds. His next outing will likely come against another highly ranked opponent as he looks to work his way back into title contention.
