The PFL have let a good one go. The UK’s Shanelle Dyer will headline Dana White’s Contender Series on September 9th and is set to take the organisation by storm. At 6-0, Dyer has notched four knockouts during her short career so far.
At just 24 years of age, the Great British Top Team star is well known to UK MMA fans and is set to clash with Carol Foro in the co-main event and look to earn a UFC contract with a win. Brazil’s Foro is 8-1 and has a similar finishing style with seven finishes, so expect a short fight between these two.
Shanelle Dyer has featured for the PFL for three fights, leaving on good terms, last fighting in September 2024. Dyer stated that one of the reasons that she left the PFL is that she wanted to fight at her natural weight, strawweight; however, the PFL were unable to find her match-ups at 115lbs. She also put that she felt that she was running out of time, despite being so young.
The PFL granted Dyer her release, and the UFC picked her up for a Contender Series fight in September. She also stated that she wants “the best fights and the best fights are in the UFC. I want to be in the UFC and take out everyone one by one, win the strawweight belt and then defend that a few times, go up to flyweight. I want to see what my limit is”.
Despite being only 24 years of age, Dyer has had a very busy schedule. She became an amateur at just 18, she fought a who’s who of amateur talent at the time. She clashed with current UFC fighters Shauna Bannon and Ivana Petrovic before turning professional.
Since turning professional, Dyer defeated Valentina Scatizzi, the finalist of the 2023 PFL Europe. She was scheduled to clash with Paulina Wisniewska, the 2024 PFL European champ, however, had to withdraw due to injury.
On top of picking up big wins, she scored a knockout of the year contender in 2023 at just 21 years of age with a brutal spinning back elbow.
So is Shanelle Dyer ready for the UFC? Is she ready for the big leagues? We’ll find out on September 9th.
