Jiri Prochazka is still holding out hope for a third fight with Alex Pereira.
Prochazka recently notched his second straight third-round knockout, rallying to stop Khalil Rountree Jr. at UFC 320.
The win kept the Czech star atop the light heavyweight rankings, and he has been vocal about wanting another shot at Pereira.
When Pereira knocked out Magomed Ankalaev to reclaim his title at UFC 320, Prochazka was visibly moved, shedding tears of joy, showing that a potential third encounter with ‘Poatan’ holds significant emotional weight for him.
Pereira has expressed interest in moving up to heavyweight to face Jon Jones, who is considered by many to be the greatest fighter of all time.
But even if Jones does return, there are no guarantees that the promotion will set up a fight between him and the current light heavyweight titleholder.
Prochazka thinks that the UFC might prevent Pereira’s requested fight. If the Brazilian wishes to ascend to the heavyweight division, he may be required to relinquish his current title.
‘The Last Samurai’ said to Bloody Elbow: “Of course it’s a big possibility about this fight, but I don’t think the UFC will agree with that.
“And the second thing is, he is going to heavyweight so I think he needs to release the title or I don’t know, I really don’t care what will be his next move because like I said, I wanna fight for the title and right now, I don’t care if it will be Alex Pereira, (Carlos) Ulberg, or Ankalaev,” Prochazka stated.
Now that Pereira is back on top, he is once again the biggest name in the UFC, and a fight with Jones would easily be one of the biggest matchups of 2026.
But Joe Rogan believes it would go beyond just being a big fight. He has said it could be “the biggest fight in human history,” even suggesting it should be for a heavyweight ‘BMF’ belt.
Dana White has previously played down the chances, saying there is only a “billion to one” shot that Jones fights at the UFC White House event. So for now, we will just have to wait and see if it actually happens.
