Jon Jones has posted his first statement during an incredibly difficult time for his family.

On Friday, tributes poured in following the tragic passing of Arthur Jones, the older brother of the former UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion.

The 39-year-old former NFL star passed away on Friday morning.

Jon Jones had responded to Alex Pereira’s showing of support to ‘Bones’ and his family immediately following his win in the main event of UFC 320.

Now, the UFC legend has shared a message of his own via social media.

Jon Jones issues public statement about honouring and celebrating the life of his brother, Arthur Jones

While UFC president Dana White had spoken about his conversations with Jon Jones following the tragic news on Friday, ‘Bones’ himself hadn’t shared a public message.

That changed late on Monday night, when he posted on social media about the funeral service that will take place this Saturday to honor and celebrate the life of Arthur Jones.

It wouldn’t have been surprising to have not heard anything from the UFC legend during this incredibly difficult time.

However, it’s clear that Jones had something that he wanted to put out there to all of his supporters and those who want to pay their respects to his older brother.

After listing the details of the funeral service, Jones ended his post with the following statement.

“We kindly ask that those who knew and loved Arthur join us in paying their respects. Out of respect for our family’s privacy during this difficult time, we ask that attendance be limited to close friends, family, and those who shared a meaningful connection with Arthur.”

Henry Cejudo spoke about the influence that Arthur Jones had on his brother Jon Jones

In his own tribute to Arthur Jones during the Pound 4 Pound podcast, Henry Cejudo reflected on memories that Jon Jones had shared with him about his brother.

‘Triple C’ recalled how ‘Bones’ would tell him about the competitive streak that he had with both of his brothers, and his older one in particular.

Cejudo claimed that this would have likely had a huge influence on Jones, helping to shape him into a fighter that many consider to be the greatest of all time.

“Why is Jon Jones the greatest of all time? It’s probably because he got bullied by his brother, Arthur Jones,” Cejudo said. “It’s sad news for Mixed Martial Arts, it’s unfortunate, and I felt it too even though I wasn’t super close with Arthur, it stings.

“It just lets you know you’re here one day but you could be gone the next.”
