Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic are preparing for their fight at UFC 309. Many people think that after this both fighters could hang it up, and there’s some logic behind that reasoning. Most of the fighters retire near 40 and both fighters are having the same scenario here. Miocic is 42 and thus he still has a few years left of a fighter’s prime whereas Jones is 37. These fighters have done a great job in the UFC Heavyweight Division as well as in other divisions.

Although they have not confirmed any retirement plans before the fight in UFC 309, both champions have dropped hints about possible retirement. A close friend of Bones as well as his trainer, Brandon Gibson has reached the training camp, and the whole environment of the camp is as if it is the last one. They won’t be able to train with Jones as the UFC heavyweight champion of the world again.

Last fight Of Jon Jones In the UFC

Even though the fight with Miocic could be the last one for Jones in the UFC, Gibson talked about it and when he treated it like the last one it kind of became obvious that this is the end. In Gibson’s opinion, Jones has never been more prepared and focused than he is now. Jones is arguably one of the greatest fighters of all time after having accomplished almost all that can be asked of a fighter in the sport. The coach of Jones said this: “Whenever Jon’s ready to retire, I’m right there with him. I’m approaching this one like it’s our last go, it’s our last rodeo.”

Partnership Of Gibson

If we look at the career of “Jones the Bones” there are not many things left for him to achieve but it would be a plus for him to win against Miocic because he is a two-time world champion in the Heavyweight Division. So Jones will try his best to achieve this one last goal before his retirement. However, Gibson understands that every fighter must cross the finish line eventually and cannot fight forever,

Gibson said this about the upcoming fight: “I think physically, mentally, he could go in there and have five or six more great performances. There’s nothing left for Jon to prove. I think he really wants this fight with Stipe. I think this fight will help solidify Jon’s status as that great heavyweight champion but it’s not something we talk about every night at the gym. We’re definitely all eyes on Nov. 16. But each time I go to a practice, I’m approaching it as this is my last camp. I’m giving it my all.”

Final Thoughts

The hype of UFC 309 is high but there is one thing that people seem to have forgotten, Interim Champion Tom Aspinall. Daniel Cormier also believes that after a few months, people will forget that Jones has dodged a big fight and will only talk about his legacy.

Many people believe that the Canadian fighter would be a much tougher opponent for Jones than Miocic, and that is why Jones is dodging him and going against Miocic so that he can continue his legacy. Tom Aspinall has lost only one fight. He has a total of 8 wins and zero draws and is among the best fighters of 2024. One thing is for sure; if Jones vs Aspinall did take place, it would be the biggest question mark of UFC.
