The champion hasn’t fought since that night in November 2024, and despite recovery updates and the occasional gym post, fans have been left wondering what’s next. Some were starting to think he’d retired and just forgot to tell us. But this week, Jones reminded everyone he's still watching—and listening.

Tom Aspinall, the interim heavyweight titleholder, has been making waves of his own. Since defeating Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304, he’s made his position clear: he wants to be undisputed champion, with or without Jon Jones—something he’s repeated in interviews over the past year. In a recent interview via MIGHTY on YouTube hosted by former UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson. Aspinall stated he ‘doesn’t care about fighting Jon Jones’ and simply wants the belt unified.

That remark finally drew a response from the reigning champ. In an Instagram post captured by Verdict MMA. Jones fired back with a message that sounded part coach, part dad: ‘Shut your mouth and do as you’re told ’. The emoji didn’t soften the blow—it just made it sting with a smile.

This exchange adds another layer to the ongoing saga between the two champions. Aspinall, despite holding the interim title, has been stuck in limbo—waiting for Jones to either fight him or vacate the belt. The UFC has yet to make an official move, though Dana White has gone on record saying the fight will eventually happen.

Until then, nobody seems to know what’s going on—not even the fighters. Aspinall hasn’t stayed active either—his last appearance was at UFC 304 in July 2024, and he’s been waiting just like the rest of us, hoping the UFC finally makes a decision. Whether the promotion books the unification bout remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: the tension is no longer subtle.
