Kamaru Usman has responded after facing backlash over a video he shared on social media.

Anthony Joshua was involved in a fatal car crash at the end of last year, and all that followed for some time was a short post on his Instagram story.

Joshua’s friends, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, passed away when their vehicle crashed into a stationary car.

A clip shared by Usman showed ‘AJ’ speaking to him via FaceTime, opening up about the accident not long after it happened. The post has since been deleted.

‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ has now commented on the decision to post that video, addressing the situation in a social media statement.

The video, recorded over Usman’s shoulder, showed Joshua speaking for the first time about the deaths of his two friends.

Usman had originally intended the footage to be part of behind-the-scenes coverage from his latest AKO MMA event in Lagos, Nigeria. Instead, it ended up capturing the Briton’s immediate reaction to the news.

The post did not sit well with some fans. After taking it down, Usman responded to the criticism by explaining how it happened and apologising for it.

Usman explained that he was not aware their conversation had been included in promotional material and expressed regret over how it was handled.

“After seeing what’s being written it’s quite heartbreaking. Being on camera that whole day in preparation for The AKO show, it completely slipped my mind that my conversation was recorded. I realized after and asked about it.

“I take full responsibility for not properly watching the video that was released and keeping my private conversation with my brother AJ private.

“SMH. Big L on me. That’s not something I would ever do to a friend/brother,” he stated on X.

Following Usman’s apology, the Briton quickly responded with a message of his own on social media.

This time, he spoke more about what had happened, taking a moment to thank everyone who had reached out and supported him.

“Thank you for all the love and care you have shown my brothers. I didn’t even realise how special they are,” Joshua published on Instagram.

“I’ll just be walking with them and cracking jokes with them, not even knowing God kept me in the presence of great men.

“100% it’s tough for me, but I know it’s even tougher for their parents. I have a strong mind, and I believe God knows their hearts. May God have mercy on my brothers.”
