An unexpected source may have revealed when a rumored championship rematch between Ilia Topuria and Alexander Volkanovski is expected to take place.
The UFC 298 main event that saw rising star Ilia Topuria versus division king Alexander Volkanovski was one of the biggest fights of 2024. The finish of the scrap also delivered a historic moment, because after five successful title defenses, the Australian’s legendary reign as champion came to a definitive end when the Spaniard scored a stunning knockout win.
“El Matador” then followed that up in October with another highlight reel win in his first title defense. This time against another division icon and former champion, Max Holloway. Following the victory, Volkanovski entered the Octagon and squared off with the champ to do some early hype work for an eventual rematch in 2025.
However, fans had no idea when the bout might happen. Well, we might have an official date, and the news comes from an unlikely source.
”They just announced Ilia and Volk. April, [UFC] 314, I think?” middleweight prospect Bo Nickal claimed during a recent podcast appearance (h/t Sportskeeda). “… I don’t know about an Ilia and Volk rematch. I mean I get it. Volk had to rematch Holloway a bunch of times. I love Volk. He’s great. [But] I don’t see a path to victory for him.”
”… It’s official. I know for a fact,” he added. “I don’t know if it’s announced. But I know it’s happening for a fact. Inside sources. I’m announcing it… I might fight on that card. That’s a card I’m trying to fight on.”
A rematch between Topuria and Volkanovski has not yet been announced. UFC 314 reportedly will go down on April 12 and is expected to take place in Miami, Florida. Below you can get a look at the bouts that have been rumored for the card.
