A UFC debutant put the lightweight division on notice in 2018.
It’s that time of the year again for Noche UFC, an annual event held to commemorate the Mexican fighting spirit on Mexican Independence Day weekend.
Brazilian contenders Diego Lopes and Jean Silva headline the 14-fight card from San Antonio, Texas, this Saturday.
It’s a home game for ‘The Great Ape’ Alexander Hernandez, who looks for his fifth-straight win at 155 lbs when he meets fellow 16-fight UFC veteran Diego Ferreira.
Hernandez makes the walk on two weeks’ notice just as he did for his first UFC fight against a former top-3 contender.
After an impressive 8-1 run on the regional scene, Hernandez got the UFC call-up to replace King Green against Beneil Dariush on two weeks’ notice at UFC 222 in March 2018.
Dariush was ranked #12 in the world at the time and rose as high as #3 in his career.
Hernandez wasted no time in taking the fight to Dariush. Dariush tried to touch gloves after the opening bell, but got a kick to the body instead.
Hernandez pressured Dariush on the feet. Dariush tried his best to stand his ground against the newcomer but Hernandez was too fast for him, sleeping him with a devastating left hand.
Hernandez landed three more strikes on the unconscious Dariush before the referee stopped the contest 42 seconds into the first round. An explosive debut for the 25-year-old Alexander Hernandez.

It’s crazy to think Hernandez just fought on the last pay-per-view a few weeks ago.
Hernandez was a 3-to-1 underdog against Chase Hooper at UFC 319, who he TKO’d in the closing seconds of round 1. The odds were about the same for his debut against Dariush.

Less than two weeks after his win in Chicago, Hernandez got booked against Diego Ferreira at Noche UFC in his hometown of San Antonio.
Hernandez hasn’t fought at home since he defeated Francisco Trinaldo in 2019.
