Paddy Pimblett has kicked off his training camp ahead of schedule as he looks to sharpen up for his next fight.
There are already three matchups on the card for UFC 329, which is scheduled for International Fight Week in July.
Pimblett has already confirmed he’ll be fighting on that date and hinted that Benoit Saint-Denis could be the man standing across from him.
In a recent video, ‘The Baddy’ talked about how camp was going and gave an update on where he’s at physically. He also explained why this training cycle is starting sooner than usual.
Paddy Pimblett took a few lessons from his first UFC defeat, learning more about what he needs to improve before stepping back into the Octagon.
On his YouTube channel, a recent video featured ‘The Baddy’ hosting former UFC fighter Dong Hyun Kim at his Liverpool gym. The session was recorded a week earlier, according to Pimblett’s Instagram.
In the video, Pimblett spoke openly about where he’s at physically as camp gets underway, admitting he’s not fully fit just yet.
“Still feel like I’m getting back into it. I don’t feel as sharp as I need to be. That’s just why we’ve started camp a bit earlier. Still got a couple of little niggles, couple of injuries. So, hopefully [over] the next few weeks, they go down and I can focus more on my training.”
In January, Justin Gaethje landed 144 significant strikes on Pimblett—just 52 fewer than Pimblett had absorbed in his previous seven UFC fights combined.
Despite that damage, the lightweight didn’t stay away from training for long. He returned to the gym soon after the loss and said that any lingering issues were due to eye pokes during the fight rather than any serious injuries.
Now heading into this latest camp, even though Pimblett hasn’t shared specifics about what’s bothering him physically, it’ll be worth watching how things develop in the coming weeks.
