Prates Tells Medic To Calm Down After Belgrade Callout

Carlos Prates has brushed off Uros Medic's callout following the Serbian fighter's knockout win at UFC Belgrade.

Medic stopped Daniel Rodriguez on home soil Saturday and used his post-fight interview to call out several welterweight contenders, including Prates and former champion Leon Edwards. The win extended Medic's streak to four straight and raised his profile in a crowded division. But Prates, coming off a finish of Jack Della Maddalena at UFC Perth, was unimpressed.

Prates Eyes Title Shot Before Medic Clash

In an Instagram post captured by BJPenn.com, Prates addressed the callout directly. "A lot of you guys, Sean Brady, Uros Medic, and the other welterweights, have been mentioning my name. Calm down, brothers," he said. "In my next fight, I'm taking that belt. After that, I'll deal with all of you and take you straight to the Kingdom of Pain. Be ready. Nothing personal, just business."

Prates is angling for the next welterweight title shot after Islam Makhachev defends against Ian Machado Garry at UFC 330. Makhachev recently said Michael Morales, the UFC 330 backup, needs another fight before earning a title opportunity, which could clear a path for Prates. If Makhachev beats Garry, the Brazilian contender appears poised to challenge for the belt.

Medic will need to add at least one more top-ten name to his resume before joining that conversation. UFC 330 takes place August 24 in Philadelphia.
