A moment from an independent wrestling show went viral for all the wrong reasons in August when Raja Jackson slammed Stuart Smith, whose ring name is Syko Stu, to the mat and punched him in the face more than 20 times . Jackson, who is the son of former UFC star Rampage Jackson, was subsequently arrested and is facing charges that could see him jailed for up to seven years.
Reported by USA Today, Jackson appeared in court this week so that he could enter a plea for the charges brought against him. Jackson has pleaded not guilty to the two charges brought against him - one felony count of battery with bodily injury and one misdemeanor count of battery.
It's the felony charge that poses the biggest threat to Jackson if he ends up being found guilty. Although the charge typically carries a maximum sentence of four years, prosecutors are pushing for that maximum to be overlooked and suggesting Jackson be put behind bars for seven years. The additional misdemeanor could potentially add another six months on top of that, depending on the verdict.
The trial will continue via a preliminary hearing that's currently slated to take place on November 24, 2025. The arrest didn't happen for a while after the incident, with Jackson being released on a $50,000 bail shortly after. Indie wrestler Syko Stu was hospitalized after the incident but has since been released, losing multiple teeth, suffering a facial fracture, and also a serious head injury.
The incident, which was live-streamed on Kick, began with Jackson jumping into the ring and slamming Stu to the mat. The MMA fighter then proceeded to punch Stu in the face repeatedly, continuing long after the wrestler had been knocked unconscious. Jackson didn't stop until other wrestlers quite literally had to drag him off of Stu's unconscious body.
Exactly what was supposed to happen remains unclear. There was reportedly an incident earlier in the day where Stu hit Jackson in the head with a drink, and that a staged attack that would take place during the show was arranged off the back of that. It's believed Jackson was supposed to jump the barrier and get in the ring as a part of those plans, and that even the slam to the mat was all detailed before that. However, the 20+ unanswered punches that landed Stu in the hospital were almost certainly not discussed ahead of time.
