Ronda Rousey has been very outspoken about her run in WWE recently, seemingly burning any remaining bridges between herself and the company and claiming she has no plans to ever return to pro wrestling. Despite that, her praise for certain workers in AEW has sparked rumors that she might one day become All Elite, and a run in WWE's rival promotion might be just what she needs to reignite her love for the business.
The Rousey to AEW rumors have been sparked by the glowing praise the former Women's Champion had for Jon Moxley and the work he's been doing with Rousey's close friend, Marina Shafir. Despite Rousey's claims that she has no interest in wrestling again, Wrestling Observer Radio noted that some in AEW believe her admiration for Moxley and Shafir could lead to her working with the company.
While Rousey badmouthing WWE is nothing new, her latest qualms with how things went involve her confusion over having to work with Alexa Bliss, and her refusal to tap to Becky Lynch's armbar. Rousey noted that WWE put her with Bliss due to Bliss's high merch sales, The Rowdy One unable to get her head around why that's the metric on which her opponent would be measured.
AEW doesn't strike me as the kind of promotion that bases its booking on merch sales. It seems to be the other way around, booking matches and letting the merch sales follow. Clearly, a method Rousey would be a fan of. As for refusing to tap out, while WWE eventually let Rousey get her own way, the wrestlers seem to have a lot more say over creative and the outcomes of their matches in AEW, so I imagine there'd be a lot less pushback if Rousey were to refuse to tap out to someone.
AEW is also framed as being a more real, sports-like product, so the idea of a former MMA champion tapping to an arm bar likely wouldn't even be considered.
Not only would Rousey signing with AEW be beneficial for Rousey, but it could also solve some problems for AEW. The promotion currently has two champions that are well on their way to feeling like they might be unbeatable, each of them rapidly running out of opponents. Nothing would strike fear into Toni Storm, Mercedes Mone, and the rest of the AEW women's division quite like Rousey showing up to run riot and win gold.
