Flyweight Tatsuro Taira was meant to face Amir Albazi at UFC Vegas 108 on August 2nd, but it appears the fight is off.
Taira suffered the first loss of his career in his last bout. He came out second best in a split decision loss to Brandon Royval at UFC Vegas 98. The defeat was a major setback, as it brought his six-fight win streak to an end. He had secured big stoppage wins over Carlos Hernandez and Alex Perez prior to this. Meanwhile, Albazi was also coming off a loss against Brandon Moreno. That was his first UFC loss, having secured a victory over Kai Kara-France in the fight before. The winner would have taken themselves a step closer to a title shot.
However, it appears the match-up won’t happen. Taira hinted that something may be amiss on his social media: “When one door closes, another opens. Let’s go have a fire.” Meanwhile, Albazi had this to say: “As fight fans, do you prefer the arenas or the UFC Apex? As a fighter, I definitely like the atmosphere and hearing of the crowd in the arenas. Makes me feel like a gladiator.”
Heard Taira and Albazi is off. Was looking forward to watching that grapple battle.
