Tony Ferguson and Dillon Danis have formed an ‘unlikely alliance’ since joining up with Misfits Boxing, but it has already been put under threat.
The pair appeared quite friendly during their post-show press conference with Darren Till and promoters Mams Taylor and Kalle Sauerland after their respective wins on Saturday night. It had been six years for both since their last MMA victories, and they celebrated in style with stoppage victories each.
However, when the question of a fight between Ferguson and long-time rival Conor McGregor came up, the duo almost broke up on the spot. The Irishman and his American foe have been feuding for years, but a fight never materialized during their UFC heydays.
For years there has been bad blood between Tony Ferguson and Conor McGregor as the pair pursued a fight with one another. The American even signed up with his rival’s management team Paradigm Sports, but that didn’t make a fight possible.
And asked about potentially now meeting him in the ring during last night’s press conference, Ferguson replied: “He’s scared s—less of me, he does not want to fight me. He’s scared s—less like that coward Khabieber [Khabib Nurmagomedov].
“These are the two fighters that I’ve loved to want to fight, I’ve got dossiers on both, I scared the s— out of them. You know what? They just don’t want a part of it. And if they do we can find a way how to do it. I’m here, I’m resurrected and ready to enjoy this victory tonight.”
This irked Danis, who joked: “He doesn’t want that fight. I like Tony but he doesn’t want to get hurt. Conor’s my boy, he’s my brother. I don’t know if that’s a fight he wants to take.”
Ferguson then noted that they would have best poised to make a fight when they were signed to the UFC and the same management years ago.
Earlier this year, Danis and Ferguson were inked to fight under the doomed GFL promotion in their inaugural weekend of events. However, when that failed they were both separately matched under the Misfits banner.
The New Yorker got an MMA fight for the first time since 2019 and showed his elite grappling with a 15-second victory over Warren Spencer. Then Ferguson knocked out Tik Tok star Salt Papi in the third round of a back-and-forth encounter.
It led to the pair meeting in the ring for a brief but respectful face-off, with a potential fight being looked at down the road.
