Dan Hooker has been busy while he waits to make a full recovery from his recent injury.
‘The Hangman’ was set to face Justin Gaethje in the co-main event of UFC 313 earlier this year until a hand injury forced Hooker to withdraw.
His hope of being the backup fighter for the main event of UFC 318 also took a hit when the fan favorite lightweight revealed that he required a second surgery before making his return.
In the meantime, the 35-year-old attracted some negative press after he announced that he’d be running his first combat sports event.
Hooker’s “King of the Streets” event received pushback from the president of New Zealand’s Boxing Coaches Association but it went ahead as planned, as recent footage shows.
Dan Hooker posted a video on social media which showed a devastating knockout that happened in the very first fight that took place in “King of the Streets”.
The event was set to take place as a boxing tournament in MMA gloves where a $50,000 prize awaited the man who came out on top.
His move into promoting was even backed by Israel Adesanya, with Hooker having no issues in finding willing participants for his winner-takes-all gauntlet.
Despite concerns being raised that someone could get badly hurt, with the event being described as “straight-out thuggery”, that didn’t stop it from taking place in what appears to be someone’s backyard.
It didn’t take long for Hooker’s new venture to produce a brutal finish with the opening bout being ended in mere seconds after a huge uppercut sent one competitor crashing to the floor.
Though the fight was immediately waved off following a faceplant, fortunately, the fighter quickly got back up to his feet before sharing an embrace with his opponent with a smile on his face.
Dan Hooker’s preferred timeframe for his return has taken several hits in recent months following his second surgery.
Though it doesn’t look like he’ll be jumping back in anytime soon, that hasn’t stopped ‘The Hangman’ from continuing to put some work in at the gym.
A video posted on his Instagram shows Hooker keeping his right hand protected while he drills kicks on the pads.
Given their recent feud, a fight with Arman Tsarukyan would make a lot of sense for both men once Hooker is ready to go.
