Jon Jones did not need long to become part of the story on Most Valuable Promotions’ first MMA night. His Netflix broadcast role gave him a privileged spot at the card headlined by Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano.
Jones’ appearance there came in a context when his UFC future remains tangled in public frustration. His relationship with Dana White has looked increasingly strained, and every non-UFC appearance now carries extra meaning.
And he added fuel to that narrative as he did not merely praise MVP’s production. The 38-year-old American suggested the promotion had already outdone the UFC.
MVP’s Instagram account shared footage of Jones reflecting on the event, and his verdict was striking. He hailed the promotion and issued a bold comparison with the UFC.
“I thought the MVP promotion was absolutely unbelievable. I think it was actually better than the UFC. I’ve never been at such a promotion. They had the fog machines and TVs absolutely everywhere, [they also had] great fighters,” he said.
The former UFC two-weight champion also weighed in on the brutal clash between Nate Diaz and Mike Perry, saying: “I think half the audience came out to see Diaz win. Both of those guys are my personal friends, so it was bittersweet.”
Francis Ngannou returned on the same card and quickly revived talk of the heavyweight fight that never happened against Jones.
‘Bones’ said he must focus on escaping his UFC contract first to make that real. He also suggested Dana White has no interest in doing business with Ngannou, showing himself open to signing with MVP.
However, Jones is still tied to the UFC, and even if the promotion keeps him off future cards, White is not expected to release him and pave the way for a blockbuster clash promoted by a rival organisation.
