UFC’s Conor McGregor undergoing 5th career surgery

Earlier this month on Jul. 11, 2026, Conor McGregor made his long-awaited MMA return at UFC 329 against Max Holloway. However, the scheduled fight finished way earlier than expected as McGregor sustained a serious ACL and meniscus injury.

On Monday, Aug. 3, 2026, McGregor announced undergoing surgery after suffering ACL and meniscus injuries in his first-round loss. “Well folks, here we go again! Surgery number 5 of my career coming up! All things considered that is an ok number! Let’s do it, WE GOT THIS!” McGregor wrote.

McGregor’s comeback fight in the Octagon ended after only 1 minute and 9 seconds. He landed awkwardly after attempting a flying roundhouse kick. McGregor, 38, fell inside the octagon in the opening seconds. He later fell several more times before the referee waved off the bout, ruling him ineligible to fight. While there are no confirmed updates on his return, McGregor had recently dropped a theory about his injury.

Dana White addresses Conor McGregor’s UFC comeback

Earlier last month, while speaking to the media following Zuffa Boxing 9, UFC President Dana White was asked about McGregor’s return after his recent surgery. “We had [Conor McGregor] on FaceTime tonight ringside. But Conor McGregor’s out for a year,” White said.

And a few days ago before that, White had shared a detailed update on McGregor’s injury. “The Conor McGregor discussion isn’t even worth talking about,” White said. “He’s got to have knee surgery, he’s going to have to go through physical therapy, it’s all going to take time, and then when the doctor says you can start hardcore training again, then we start talking about Conor McGregor again.”
