Who’s Fighting for Their Job at UFC 320? Potential Roster Cuts Ahead

UFC 320 isn’t just about titles—two veteran fighters may be battling to stay on the roster

When fight week rolls around, the conversation usually centers on gold and glory. But not every fighter on the UFC 320 card is chasing a championship. For some, the stakes are far more personal—holding onto their job in the world’s biggest MMA promotion. The UFC has been trimming its roster more aggressively in recent months, and for certain veterans, a loss this weekend could spell the end of the road.

Two names stand out in particular: Josh Emmett and Brogan Walker. Both fighters enter UFC 320 facing questions about their long-term futures with the organization.

Emmett, a long-time featherweight contender, has lost three of his last four fights. His most recent setback came in a unanimous decision defeat to Lerone Murphy, where he struggled to generate offense. At 40 years old, Emmett is fighting not just for a win, but to prove he still belongs at the elite level of the division. Another loss could push him out of the rankings conversation—and potentially off the roster altogether.

Walker’s situation is even more precarious. At 37, the former Ultimate Fighter finalist is still searching for her first UFC victory. Her latest outing ended in disappointment against Iasmin Lucindo after nearly two years away from competition, and with each loss, her margin for error shrinks. In a bantamweight division already thin on contenders, Walker has been given opportunities, but another defeat would leave the promotion little reason to keep her around.

It’s worth noting that most of UFC 320’s card is stacked with fighters riding winning streaks, building their stock rather than losing it. But for Emmett and Walker, the stakes are unique. This weekend won’t just be about victory—it could determine whether they remain UFC fighters when the dust settles. Dana White has often said the UFC is a place for the best of the best, and when veterans begin to falter, tough calls on their future quickly follow.
