Yan Xiaonan vs. Virna Jandiroba prediction, odds, pick for UFC 314

It’s time for another betting prediction and pick for UFC 314: Volkanovski vs. Lopes as we take a look at this next bout in the Women’s Strawweight (115) Division between top contenders. China’s No. 1 Yan Xiaonan will take on Brazil’s No. 3 Virna Jandiroba as both fighters look for an upcoming title shot. Check the UFC odds series for our Yan-Jandiroba prediction and pick.

Yan Xiaonan (19-4) has gone 9-3 inside the UFC since 2017. Her road led to a Strawweight title bout against Weili Zhang to where she fell short via unanimous decision. She returned with a unanimous win over Tabatha Ricci in November 2024 and she’s ready for another cementing win as the No. 1 contender. Yan stands 5-foot-5 with a 63-inch reach.

Virna Jandiroba (21-3) has gone 7-3 inside the UFC since 2019. She’s currently riding a four-fight win streak with victories over Angela Hill, Marina Rodriguez, Loopy Godinez, and most recently Amanda Lemos. Seeing the highest ranking of her career, she’ll look to exact her first title shot with a win here. Jandiroba stands 5-foot-3 with a 64-inch reach.

UFC 314 Odds: Yan Xiaonan-Virna Jandiroba Odds

Yan Xiaonan: +124

Virna Jandiroba: -148

Over 2.5 rounds: -195

Under 2.5 rounds: +150

Why Yan Xiaonan Will Win

  • Last Fight: (W) Tabatha Ricci – U DEC
  • Last 5: 3-2
  • Finishes: 8 KO/TKO, 1 SUB

Yan Xiaonan proved her status as the No. 1 contender in the division following a dominant win over an up-and-coming contender in Tabatha Ricci. Yan struggled to finish Ricci, as most opponents do, but she leaned on her superior striking and ability to be quicker than her opponent with her combinations. She’s well-rounded wherever the fight may take place and she’ll certainly have the significant striking advantage during this fight. The biggest key will be remaining on her feet and not allowing Jandiroba to hold her down on the mat.

Yan Xiaonan owns just one submission loss and one submission win on her record, but it was clear during the Weili fight that she struggled to get off her back in certain situations. She boats an impressive 63% takedown defense, but she’ll have to be diligent against the constant grappling of her opponent. If Yan is able to deter Jandiroba from dipping for takedowns by throwing knees up the middle, she could stand to see success in piecing her opponent up and pushing a pace during this fight.

Why Virna Jandiroba Will Win

  • Last Fight: (W) Amanda Lemos – SUB (armbar, R2)
  • Last 5: 4-1
  • Finishes: 1 KO/TKO, 14 SUB

Virna Jandiroba is as steady and consistent as they come in terms of knowing what she’s going to do in the octagon. She strikes very defensively and slowly inches forward to close the distance on her opponents. From there, she’ll look to initiate a clinch or shoot for a takedown in hopes of bringing her opponent down. Her greatest strength is her top pressure on the ground and ability to soften opponents with her ground-and-pound techniques. With 14 submissions on her pro record, she’ll undoubtedly seek to do the same during this fight.

Virna Jandiroba doesn’t absorb a ton of damage and when she does, it hardly effects her propensity to move forward and close the striking pocket. She’s likely to east some shots on the feet against a striker like Yan, but she can make it all pay off if she’s able to land just one takedown during each round. While she won’t be a huge threat to finish the fight, Jandiroba lives for these situations where she can control her opponent on the ground.

Final Yan Xiaonan-Virna Jandiroba Prediction & Pick

This is an interesting matchup between two of the best fighters in the division and it’s even more surprising to see the higher-ranked Yan Xiaonan as the betting underdog. This is a testament to the dominant grappling of Virna Jandiroba and it’s clear oddsmakers believe she can pose a problem to the striking of Yan.

Still, Yan Xiaonan has done great work in avoiding being finished during her UFC run and as long as she can keep this fight on the feet, she should have a significant advantage with her speed and athleticism in all facets. Jandiroba can certainly make this her kind of fight if she can get it to the ground, but it seems more likely that Yan is able to flourish on the feet.

Due to her price at her current ranking, we have to roll with the betting underdog in Yan Xiaonan. Her only focus should be on keeping this fight standing and out-pacing Jandiroba with her dominant striking. If she does that, she should be in for a decisive win.

Final Yan Xiaonan-Virna Jandiroba Prediction & Pick: Yan Xiaonan (+124)

Bears GM speaks out after superstar goes down with injury

Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson is expected to miss most of training camp due to a leg injury, per ESPN’s Courtney Cronin. Johnson was placed on the non-football injury list when veterans reported to Chicago for camp. He suffered the injury during offseason training, according to Bears general manager Ryan Poles. Johnson is coming off his second consecutive Pro Bowl and is headed into the second year of a four-year, $76M deal. He has dealt with a number of injuries over his career, playing no more than 15 games in a season over the first four years of his career. In 2024, he played a full season for the first time, starting all 17 games with a career-high 1,032 snaps. An extended absence into the regular season would force Chicago to find another starting cornerback among their veteran depth, but Poles said that the team is not “overly concerned” about a long-term injury. “We’ve got a lot of faith that he’s going to put in the time to rehab and be his full self when he comes back,” said Poles on Tuesday. 2023 fifth-rounder Terell Smith will likely step into a first-team role in Johnson’s absence. Chicago largely relied on a cornerback trio of Johnson, Tyrique Stevenson and Kyler Gordon last year; Smith is the only remaining defensive back on the roster who played at least 150 snaps on the boundary for the Bears in 2024, according to Pro Football Focus. Offseason signings Nick McCloud and Tre Flowers may also see a bump in reps over the coming weeks as Johnson rehabs his leg with his eyes on returning for the Bears’ Week 1 opener against the Vikings.

Kirk Cousins makes notable leadership move after Falcons practice

Kirk Cousins might be relegated to the job of backup quarterback, but he is showing veteran leadership to his Atlanta Falcons teammates. Following Sunday's practice, Cousins pulled aside rookie defensive end James Pearce to encourage the first-round pick after his fourth practice in the league at Flowery Branch, Georgia. "QB Kirk Cousins pulled aside Pearce after practice to compliment him on a pass batted down," wrote Marc Raimondi of ESPN. Cousins reportedly had a solid day of practice on Sunday, going 7-of-12 passing against the first-team unit. If Cousins wants out of Atlanta, he's not showing it at practice. The four-time Pro Bowl quarterback is competing on the field and being a good teammate around the facility. Cousins' actions on the field backed up what Falcons general manager Terry Fontenot praised Cousins for before the team's practice on Sunday. “Outside, it's a lot more of a deal than it is in the building,” Fontenot said to the media about the idea of friction between the Falcons and Cousins, per video from D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal Constitution. “He shows up, he does his job, just like anybody ... We've gotta build the best 70-man roster so we can go win games. "That's what we're focused on, and Kirk, just like all the other players, is focused on coming in here and doing their job. That's what he's been doing." Fontenot didn't dismiss the idea that Atlanta would trade Cousins before the season. He said the Falcons will do whatever it takes to make the team better, but stressed that Cousins has been a professional throughout the process of being replaced by Michael Penix Jr., a first-round pick from the 2024 draft. “In terms of making moves, whether it's trades or acquiring players, we're always looking at those factors," Fontenot said. "We're gonna do whatever we can do to make this team the best it can possibly be. But he's been a great professional, and he's handled himself well.” Cousins is coming to work in a manner that will make another owner want to take a chance on the veteran quarterback. That could be one of his best-selling points before he plays in his 13th season in the league.

Can LeBron James Be Traded to the Dallas Mavericks?

This year’s NBA offseason could see a lightning strike in the near future. The Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus has suggested a new, three-team trade between the Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets that would send LeBron James, alongside his son Bronny James, to Dallas in a dramatic, yet significant deal to reshape all three teams’ futures. Here’s why. LeBron James to the Dallas Mavericks LeBron James opted into his $52.6 million player option for the 2025-26 NBA season. However, James’ decision was met with skepticism by several NBA executives. Some NBA insiders expected James, 40, to opt out and sign a one-plus-one deal. The decision drove chatter of possible discontent and a potential end to his Lakers run. James holds one of the NBA’s rare no-trade clauses. Therefore, James can decide where he would land. Multiple NBA insiders have said that the Dallas Mavericks are high on James’ list. Joining the Mavericks would allow James to reunite with Kyrie Irving, join forces with Anthony Davis again, and play under Jason Kidd, who served as an assistant coach during the Lakers’ 2020 NBA championship run. James, Mavericks Outlook LeBron James is 40 years old and will turn 41 on December 30, 2025. However, James is still playing like a top-tier NBA player. If the Dallas Mavericks acquire James, the Mavericks could receive star power, shot creation, and veteran leadership. A Mavericks goal appears to be winning while the team’s NBA championship window is still open. The Mavericks would receive LeBron James (via Lakers), Bronny James (via Lakers), Drew Timme (via Nets), Tyrese Martin (via Nets), a $1.8 million trade exception, and a $1.1 million trade exception. The Mavericks could benefit from a solid core of James, Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, Cooper Flagg and Dereck Lively II. The Lakers would receive Daniel Gafford (via Mavericks), PJ Washington (via Mavericks), Naji Marshall (via Mavericks), Caleb Martin (via Mavericks), Jaden Hardy (via Mavericks), a 2030 Los Angeles Lakers second-round pick (via Nets), a 2031 Los Angeles Lakers second-round pick (via Nets) and a $24.1 million trade exception. The Lakers could start the Luka Doncic era. The Brooklyn Nets would receive Dalton Knecht (via Lakers), Maxi Kleber (via Lakers), Olivier-Maxence Prosper (via Mavericks) and Dwight Powell (via Mavericks). The Nets would serve as a facilitator, as the team would acquire assets while helping two contenders shift money around, and perhaps cash considerations. Final Thoughts It’s highly unlikely that LeBron James will be traded to the Dallas Mavericks. However, nothing can be ruled out. The NBA world saw the Luka Doncic trade to the Los Angeles Lakers this past February, and if they’re old enough to remember, the Jason Kidd trade to the Phoenix Suns in December 1996. If and when James is traded to Dallas, James’ presence can help the Mavericks succeed. James can help improve team chemistry, instill confidence in the team, and build a winning culture. James can play multiple positions as a forward, but a huge concern would be James’ declining gameplay and shooting stats.

Fever Coach Stephanie White Sends Strong Message on Angel Reese

The Indiana Fever recently defeated the Chicago Sky 93-78, earning a victory over their rivals despite Caitlin Clark being ruled out. Clark has been ruled out for quite some time, having missed a large portion of her second season in the WNBA with a string of injuries. Another WNBA star who's recently dealt with a setback is Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese. The 23-year-old Sky star was ruled out of the matchup against the Fever, nursing a back injury. Before the Fever versus Sky matchup, Indiana coach Stephanie White spoke on the absence of Reese. During her conversation with the media, White labeled Reese as the "best rebounder" in the WNBA. "We know that she is the best rebounder in this league," White said. "The way they use her in the point-forward position sometimes creates some challenges." Angel Reese has earned the label from Stephanie White. Since entering the WNBA last season, Reese has been widely regarded as one of the best rebounders in the league, having capped off her rookie year by averaging a double-double. She finished her rookie season posting 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game. Reese was second in Rookie of the Year voting behind Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark. Throughout her second season in the WNBA, Angel Reese has posted 13.8 points and 12.5 rebounds per game, similar to her stat line from her rookie season. The Chicago Sky will await the return of Reese, who's widely known as their best and most versatile player.
