The last two races haven’t been good for Bubba Wallace, and things certainly soured for him even further at Martinsville, after a crash with Carson Hocevar resulted in a multiple-car wreck.

Naturally, Wallace wasn’t happy about it, as he entered the weekend with expectations of a better performance. While speaking to Jamie Little, the 23XI driver acknowledged his lapse in judgment and also lamented the DNF after starting from 15th place.

“I misjudged. I didn’t appreciate the three-wide in 1 fine, and then I misjudged the center of the corner. Didn’t mean to turn him. What a frustrating day, man,” said Wallace.

Coming into Martinsville, Wallace was positive about his chances. But it all changed after the incident with Hocevar.

Wallace made contact with Hocevar’s rear multiple times while entering the turn. This resulted in the No.77 Chevrolet going fully sideways as the 23XI driver went through him, damaging his own car in the process and thus effectively ending his day at Martinsville.

Zane Smith, Connor Zilisch, Chris Buescher, Austin Dillon, Erik Jones, Riley Herbst, and a few others also got caught up in this crash.

Following the DNF at Martinsville, Wallace has dropped down to the eleventh spot in the standings, while Tyler Reddick, who finished 15th in the race, continues to lead the table with 353 points.

Fans Frustrated After Wallace Incident

The incident with Wallace has resulted in heated reactions from people online, who felt his move was too aggressive, and in fact, intentional, with many comments implying the driver accelerated in spite of the circumstances.

A viewer on X commented, ‘What a lie!!! You could clearly hear the throttle up this guy.’

Another user added, “Hahaha, that’s the funniest thing ever. The dude just stomped the gas and drove right through him. Didn’t even attempt to slow down to avoid him.”

Likewise, there is a section of people who are questioning Wallace’s ability to race in the Cup Series, despite the kind of start he’s had to the current season.

A user on X said, “If your car control is that bad that you did this unintentionally, you absolutely shouldn’t be racing in a top-tier series.”

Another user added, “Yeah, he needs to be parked for Bristol, there’s no defending that. That was 100% intentional.”

In a media interaction not too long ago, Wallace had expressed a strong desire to avoid being in the headlines for all the wrong reasons and to focus on things that improve his performance. With a week off before the next race in Bristol, it will be interesting to see how Wallace reclaims lost ground.
